You can burn this ISO image to a DVD using any standard disc burning application.

Hi,
Thanks for all your work scanning Computist!
I downloaded the .iso image, but cannot get it to mount on OS X 10.6.6. Disk Utility says:
Unable to attach “Computists.iso”. (not recognized)
Have I downloaded the data without error — the computed MD5 is 228db8f71008f2658cc2b9f764e77ecf.
Thanks
Hi Tom. I’m not sure what to tell you, as I don’t use a Mac. I just double-checked the image and was able to successfully mount it in Windows 7.
Are there any Mac users out there that can assist Tom?
Mike, can you post the MD5 of the ISO image? Thanks.
ChaosMD5 gave me this MD5 checksum:
1CE20029904DE7BD2AC2F8369CA2C5C3
I should note that I know absolutely nothing about MD5, so you’re on your own. Sorry.
Thanks Mike. One other check before I try downloading again. Is the exact file size of the ISO image 3,082,466,464 bytes?
Yes, that’s the exact file size. If that doesn’t work for you, let me know and I’ll put it in a zip archive and try again. A little Googling indicates that some Mac disk image applications have trouble with certain ISO images created under Windows. If all else fails, I can recreate the ISO on my wife’s MacBook.
I tried downloading again, the first time with Firefox and now again with wget. I see the exact same data with the same MD5 checksum.
Mike, was that checksum you took with ChaosMD5 definitely taken on the data on the server? If not, it’s possible that the ISO image on the server got corrupted. If so, then making a new ISO on a Mac would be greatly appreciated.
I downloaded this image to my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.6.5). Double-clicking it in the Finder produced the error “not recognized”. Disk Utility could not mount the disk, verify it, convert it, or produce a CRC-32 checksum, all for the same reason. I forgot to try mounting it with Toast.
I used the Terminal’s
opensslandmd5commands on this 3,082,466,464-byte file to generate this MD5 checksum: 228db8f71008f2658cc2b9f764e77ecfAs Tom suggested, the only alternative I can think of is that Mike’s local copy and the one on this site might be slightly different. If not, then I’m unsure where else the problem might lie — I find working with disk images to be akin to voodoo.
Hi Tom – sorry for the delay. New ISO and MD5 Checksum. Let me know if this works.
I can confirm that the new ISO works great on OS X! Thanks, Mike!
I noticed that the size shrunk from 2.9GB to 1GB. Did you leave out the original scans or something? That’s probably probably a good idea, since most people just want the PDFs, but it would be nice if the original scans were available as well.
Here’s a suggestion. I noticed that the images in the PDFs are all JPEGs. For the black and white pages, one can obtain at the same time higher quality and smaller file sizes by using JBIG2, which can be done by recent versions of Acrobat. Do you have TIFF scans for most issues? If so, would you consider using the JBIG2 if you have the software, or if not I would be happy to volunteer doing so.
@Tom: I removed the individual JPG scans, opting to go with just the PDFs to save space. Most of them (especially the early scans) are fairly low quality and my clean-up attempts were amateurish at best. Stay tuned for future news about the Archive!
Issues 65 through 91 (pdf) are corrupted on the iso. Checking the images posted on the website now. If they are ok I won’t report back.
My bad. I used the wrong ISO image, from another source. Everything seems ok. Sorry.
Thanx for the upload,I was dreading a full piece by piece download from the bbs archive site. This data is still very dangerous to many.
